Dr. Vimal Kakani a Doctor-Innovator from Hyderbad ventures to identify unmet needs of Indian Health-care to create affordable solutions and bring medical technology closer to doctors and specifically to patients. He co-invented first of their kind medical devices VAPCare and SAANS. VAPCare was designed to prevent ventilator associated pneumonia deaths in ICUs and got a US patent granted. SAANS bagged Commonwealth General’s – Innovation for Sustainable Development Award that was designed to prevent premature neonatal deaths in underdeveloped and developing countries.
Dr. Kakani’s journey began as a medical graduate from NTR University of Health Sciences, with a passion to address the problems in healthcare. Gained experience both nationally and internationally identifying unmet needs in healthcare sector. He did an Affordable Innovation in Medtech fellowship based Stanford Biodesign curriculum while working at St. John’s Medical College & Hospital, Bangalore. His teams brainchild VAPCare was featured as a case study at Stanford Biodesign.
Dr. Kakani presented papers in both national and international conferences. He is keen on motivating and trouble-shooting innovators in clinical domain. He is currently working on a project targeted towards improving medical education system standards in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad.
He is also a founder member of a society called Navodayans, that works for helping academically meritorious but economically backward students. He is a volunteer for many social service activities.
